What programs, materials, and instructional strategies does Mind Flex Tutoring offer?

Our tutors individualize the instruction to meet the needs of each student's learning style(s) which can include kinesthetic, visual, and auditory. Not every student learns the same, so supplemental and manipulative tools are added to tutoring sessions. The supplemental and manipulative learning tools utilized include flash cards, tangible items (i.e. counters, money), drawings, pictures, posters, and audio media (i.e. book on tape, CDs, music) as well as white boards, Houghton Mifflin Math Steps and Science curriculum, and Science Research Associates (SRA) Reading Labs.

How frequently will my student receive tutoring services?

Typically its 1 to 2 hours per session, twice a week for maximum benefit, with an average of two months of services.

What does Mind Flex Tutoring use to monitor and assess my student's progress?

We use the Wide Ranging Achievement Test 4 (WRAT 4) as a vertically integrated pre and post assessment. The WRAT4 gives grade level indicators pinpointing students' current academic skills in mathematics, language arts, reading comprehension, spelling and word reading. For Science, we use the pre and post tests built into curriculum to assess students' academic skills. All of the curriculum materials we use also offer regular progress check-ins in the form of chapter quizzes and reviews.

How do Mind Flex Tutoring assessment measures reflect state content standards?

Our assessment breaks down to grade level standards. From this, tutors can then determine which state standards a student is behind on; these become the foundations for the Student Learning Plans (SLP), where each student has three academic goals that are outlined for achievement through the duration of tutoring. These goals are based on the state content standards.

What will my student need to access your services (i.e. transportation to a site – where, how far from schools? Computer access – what kind, hook ups, Internet access, etc.)?

Students require nothing; however, they must have their own transportation if they want to meet at a public location such as a library, church or community center.

What is the effectiveness of Mind Flex Tutoring?

Tutoring services are continuously evaluated by an external assessor that reports students academically improve an average of one grade level using our tutoring services. By utilizing parent surveys, our evaluation models have indicated positive effects on students' behavioral and attitudinal measures as a result of using our tutoring services. For example, parents noted that their students were no longer afraid to ask questions for help and enjoyed their time at school and course work more than before receiving our tutoring services.

How will my student's progress be reported to me?

Parents receive verbal reports on each tutoring session. In addition, written progress reports are provided to the parent midway through and again at the completion the services. The point at which progress reports are given varies based on the amount of tutoring hours administered.

How will you coordinate tutoring services with my student's basic educational program at the school?

Mind Flex Tutoring makes sure to align the tutorial plan with the student's school educational plan, especially in the case where a student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

How are the tutors selected?

Tutors are carefully screened, interviewed and fingerprinted before being trained. All tutors must have previous tutoring experience, be seeking a career working in education or a similar endeavor, and are required to have college credits.

What are the options/ramifications if my student fails to attend or participate in Mind Flex tutoring services?
